There is no direct route. You need a transfer to the ferry terminal, then a ferry. Here is exactly how to do it.
The Route in Two Steps
Isla Mujeres is an island, so you cannot drive there. The trip has two legs: first a ground transfer from the airport to the ferry terminal at Puerto Juarez (about 20-25 minutes), then a 15-20 minute ferry crossing to the island.
Total travel time from landing to the island is typically 1.5 to 2 hours including the ferry wait.
Step 1: Airport to Puerto Juarez
A private transfer from Cancun Airport to the Puerto Juarez ferry terminal costs from $46 USD. Your driver takes you directly to the Ultramar ferry dock. This is the fastest and most comfortable option, especially with luggage.
Taxis are also available at the airport for roughly $50-60 USD to Puerto Juarez.
Step 2: Ferry to Isla Mujeres
Ultramar operates ferries from Puerto Juarez to Isla Mujeres roughly every 30 minutes from early morning to late evening. The crossing takes about 15-20 minutes. Tickets can be purchased at the terminal or online in advance.
Tip: buy your ferry tickets online before your trip to skip the ticket line, especially during high season (December to April).
