Distance and Drive Time
Playa del Carmen is about 65 km (40 miles) south of Cancun Airport via Highway 307. The drive takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. It is a straightforward highway route, no confusing turns.
If your flight lands during rush hour (5-7 PM), add 15 minutes to the estimate.
Your Options Ranked
Private transfer: A driver waits for you at arrivals with a sign. Fixed price, direct to your hotel, no stops. Best for families, groups, or anyone who values convenience. This is what we do.
Shared shuttle: Cheaper per person, but you wait for other passengers and stop at multiple hotels. Can add 30-60 minutes to your trip.
ADO bus: The budget option. Runs from the airport to the Playa del Carmen bus terminal (not your hotel). You will need a taxi from there. Good if you are traveling light and on a tight budget.
Taxi: Available at the airport, but prices are not fixed and tend to be high for this route. Always agree on the price before getting in.
