Both get you to your hotel. Here is how they actually compare on price, wait time, and peace of mind.
Price Comparison
Airport taxis do not use meters. The price is set per destination zone and you pay at a booth before getting in the cab. For the Hotel Zone, expect to pay more than a pre-booked private transfer for the same route.
Private transfers have fixed prices locked in when you book. No negotiation, no surprises, no booth lines.
For groups of 4+, a private van is almost always cheaper per person than a taxi.
Convenience
With a private transfer, your driver is waiting at arrivals with your name on a sign. You walk out and go. Total time from terminal exit to moving: under 5 minutes.
With a taxi, you queue at the booth, pay, get a ticket, then queue again for an available cab. During peak arrival times this can take 20-30 minutes.
Private transfers also track your flight. If you are delayed, your driver adjusts. Taxi booths do not.
When a Taxi Makes Sense
Taxis are fine for short trips within the city once you are settled. For the airport run specifically, pre-booked transfers win on almost every dimension.
The one exception: if you land and have no booking and the private transfer companies are sold out (rare, but happens during peak holidays), a taxi gets you moving.
Skip the Taxi Line
Pre-book your private transfer. Fixed price, driver waiting, no booth lines.
